The Founders Story
The Story of the Pats
Dear Friends,
I want to share with you the personal stories that fuel my passion for HEAL Clinical's mission. These stories are close to my heart and serve as a constant reminder of why we strive to make a difference.
Patrick's Story
My nephew, Patrick, was a dedicated young man with a bright future in the solar industry. His life took an unexpected turn when he injured his back during an installation job. The pain was unbearable, and his doctors prescribed OxyContin to help him manage it. Unfortunately, what seemed like a solution quickly became a trap.
Patrick became dependent on the medication, and when his prescription ran out, he turned to heroin to avoid the excruciating withdrawal symptoms. His life spiraled out of control, but there were moments of hope. After years of battling addiction, Patrick managed to quit heroin and stayed clean for nine months, rebuilding his life and reconnecting with loved ones.
Tragically, Patrick re-injured his back. In desperation, he took the same dosage he used to, unaware that his tolerance had significantly decreased. This decision proved fatal. Patrick was found by his girlfriend and young child, lifeless. The grief and shock were overwhelming for our entire family.
Patrick's death might have been avoided if he had access to Naloxone, a medication that could have reversed the overdose. This painful knowledge drives my commitment to raising awareness and increasing access to life-saving interventions.
Pat's Story
My brother, Pat, was diagnosed with Crohn's disease in his twenties. The painful flare-ups were debilitating, and his doctors prescribed opioids to manage the pain. For a while, it seemed like an effective solution, allowing Pat to work, support his family, and enjoy life.
However, as the years went by, the long-term use of opioids began to take its toll. By his early forties, nearly two decades of reliance on these medications started affecting his decision-making abilities. The man who had once been dependable and honest began to change. Desperation led Pat down a dark path of lying and stealing to support his family as his ability to work deteriorated over time.Pat's situation worsened as his kidneys failed, requiring dialysis. Despite medical interventions, the damage was too severe, and Pat passed away at 61, leaving behind a grieving wife and four children. Their lives are forever altered by the sorrow and painful memories of his struggle.
Pat's story highlights the need for better pain management strategies and comprehensive healthcare solutions that address not just physical pain but also the long-term impacts on mental and emotional well-being.
These stories are a constant reminder of the urgent need for compassionate and effective solutions. At HEAL Clinical, we are committed to advocating for more comprehensive healthcare, raising awareness, and promoting interventions that can prevent others from experiencing similar heartbreak.
Thank you for your support and for joining us in this important mission.
Sincerely,
Tim Moran
